Something about me:
My name is Jill Satin and through my travels and life I have experienced many different and diverse cultures and customs, their foods, history, people, music and languages.
My American parents came from Jewish and Christian backgrounds but were lifelong atheists bringing their children up to make their own choices. We were exposed to and explored many different religions and belief systems and ways of living life. I have always been fascinated by the rituals of the world’s many cultures and have had experiences of many different types of celebrations and rites of passage around the world. I have described myself as a Humanist since I was seven years old.
My father was a director in the Peace Corp and then worked for USAID. He was a senior Lecturer teaching Economics and Urban Development at UCL; then worked as an Economist for the World Bank. My mother was a teacher, and worked in the NHS in sexual health education;as a hospice social worker and as a psychotherapist. We lived in Ecuador, the Dominican Republic, India and the UK. I have traveled extensively and have visited over 100 countries in my lifetime. I came to England in my teens, went to Sussex University and have lived here since.
I have worked in advertising, marketing, design and photography. I started my working career at the Guardian and have held many senior and director management positions. I have been a freelance Management Consultant for over 20 years.
I have a special interest and experience in working with children and adolescents with special education needs and mental health issues. I have worked in an advisory capacity with a number of national charities & London committees. This included but is not limited to Education, NHS and Health Councils and Trusts on a voluntary and co-opted basis for the benefit of the local community and the protection and provision of local and national services. I am often asked to chair and speak as a guest for a variety of national organizations. I have also made numerous appearances speaking on national radio and television for Asthma UK and Humanists UK as well as on health, education and community issues. I am trained in ASSIST Suicide first aid, and a keen supporter of charity Papyrus.
I am a keen and talented world cook. I go to dance classes regularly. I
love walking and have done the 150 mile London Loop circular walk. I
am currently brushing up my Spanish with lessons.
